Pico Laser Toning

DescriptionPico Laser Toning is a treatment using Cynosure’s PicoSure laser that brightens the facial skin tone and improves dullness.
RisksRedness, hyperpigmentation, white spots, etc.
PriceFirst-Time Trial (Full Face): ¥9,900

What Is Pico Laser Toning?

One of the treatments to brighten the skin tone of your face and improve dullness is available at our clinic.
We use Cynosure’s PicoSure Laser for this treatment, which delivers a gentle laser output that avoids scab formation. This means there is almost no downtime, allowing you to return to your daily activities without any disruptions, including work. You can also wash your face and apply makeup immediately after the procedure.

The treatment works by stimulating the immune cells’ phagocytic activity, so the effects gradually appear over a period of several months.

In the past, treatments for melasma were limited to oral medications like tranexamic acid (a hemostatic agent originally) and vitamin C, along with topical agents like hydroquinone. However, in recent years, the use of Q-switched YAG lasers for a technique called “Laser Toning” has gained popularity and received positive feedback.

At CLASSY Sendai Beauty Clinic, our “Pico Laser Toning” treatment is most effective when performed initially every 1–2 weeks. Once you begin to see results, it is recommended to continue the treatment once a month for optimal results.

Pico Laser Toning (A Gentle Treatment for Spots and Dullness)

This is a gentle laser treatment that uses low-energy settings to avoid causing scabbing, while gradually reducing overall skin dullness and improving skin clarity. The treatment involves the phagocytic activity of immune cells, so we recommend evaluating the results over the course of several months. Treatment with PicoSure delivers significantly greater effectiveness compared to traditional Q-switched YAG or Ruby lasers.

  • Redness, Warmth, Itching, Swelling: Mild redness or warmth may occur following the treatment. These symptoms usually subside within a day, or a few days at most. In rare cases, swelling may be more noticeable. If you are concerned, please schedule a follow-up consultation.
  • Treatment Response: In rare cases, the treatment may not respond as expected. Please note that no refunds will be provided in such cases. The number of sessions required and the degree of improvement in melasma may vary between individuals.
  • Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH): In some cases, pigmentation may become darker within a month after treatment. In rare cases, this darkening may exceed the original pigmentation. If this occurs, gradual improvement may be achieved with the use of oral medications or hydroquinone cream (additional fee applies).
  • Pimples: In rare cases, you may experience an increase in pimples. This is usually temporary, but in very rare instances, the condition may persist for a longer period of time.
  • Hypopigmentation (White Spots): In extremely rare cases, hypopigmentation may occur. If you notice any such changes, please be sure to inform us at your next visit.
  • Melasma: While PicoSure picosecond laser toning can improve melasma in some cases, there are instances where it may worsen. If this occurs, topical treatments such as tretinoin and hydroquinone may be used.
Pico Laser Toning (A Gentle Treatment for Spots and Dullness)

  • Maintenance Toning: Picosecond laser toning should initially be performed every one to two weeks. Once you start seeing noticeable improvements, receiving treatments once a month will be more effective. If you notice any darkening of pigmentation, please inform us at your next visit.
  • Medications: Oral medications are essential during the laser toning treatment period. The following are typically prescribed to enhance treatment outcomes and support recovery.
    ●Hythiol (L-cysteine)
Works with vitamin C to inhibit tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in melanin synthesis, thereby helping to prevent pigmentation and promote the removal of existing melanin.
    ●Cinal (Vitamin C + Pantothenic acid)
Provides antioxidant effects that help suppress melanin synthesis.
    ●Tranexamic acid
Suppresses plasmin, a melanocyte-activating factor involved in melanin synthesis. As it is also a hemostatic agent, it should not be used by individuals with a history of thrombotic disorders or those taking oral contraceptives. Use for three consecutive months, followed by a break of at least one month. Discontinue if you experience side effects such as abdominal discomfort, swelling, stiff shoulders, or irregular menstruation.
  • Cleansing and Makeup: You may gently wash your face and apply makeup starting from the day of treatment. If you are accustomed to scrubbing your face, please switch to a gentler cleansing routine. Additionally, avoid letting the shower water come directly in contact with your face and practice gentle skincare.
  • UV Exposure: Please be sure to protect the treated area from ultraviolet (UV) exposure by using sunscreen or products such as U•Vlock.
  • Scabbing: In rare cases, scab-like formations, similar to mascara marks, may appear on the skin after the procedure. Please do not forcibly remove the scabs; instead, allow them to fall off naturally with gentle facial cleansing.
  • Skincare Products: Please refrain from using skincare products or medications that contain ingredients such as hydroquinone or retinol, which may cause peeling or redness, during the course of laser treatment.
  • Other Concerns: If you have any questions or notice anything unusual, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Recommended for People Who:

  • Want to brighten skin tone.
  • Wish to lighten dark spots and freckles.
  • Are looking to treat melasma.
  • Want to eliminate dullness.
  • Desire to improve overall skin condition.

What Is Melasma?

Melasma is a type of “spot” commonly seen in women of makeup-wearing age. The exact causes are not yet fully understood, but factors such as hormonal balance, UV exposure, and environmental influences are believed to play a role. One of the most suspected causes is the act of “rubbing.” People who wash their faces vigorously are more likely to develop severe melasma.

Typically, melasma appears on the cheekbones with a relatively unclear boundary, but it can also be found on the temples, forehead, areas where eyeglasses sit on the nose, cheeks, jawline, and above the upper lip—generally in areas with underlying bone. This suggests that the skin may be “sandwiched” between the bones and fingers during washing, causing friction. By changing your face-washing habits to be gentler, even if some makeup remains, melasma may improve significantly.

While PicoSure laser toning has shown improvement in some cases of melasma, it may sometimes worsen the condition. In such cases, treatments with topical agents like hydroquinone may be necessary.

Recommended Treatments to Combine with Laser Toning

● For those who want to enhance whitening effects:
Our popular high-concentration glutathione whitening IV, Skin Brightening IV Drip (High-Dose Glutathione & Vitamin IV), is an excellent option.
Combining it with laser toning provides a comprehensive whitening treatment “from the outside and inside.”
Since both treatments can be done simultaneously, you don’t need to worry about extended procedure times.

● For those who want to boost the effect of the laser:
We recommend combining laser toning with a Skin Peeling and Skin Treatment.

  • Skin Peeling (Chemical Peel)
This treatment loosens the skin’s stratum corneum and upper epidermal layers to normalize and accelerate skin turnover, improving the absorption of the laser.
  • Skin Treatment (Electroporation)
This treatment is ideal for cooling the skin after laser toning.
A beauty serum is applied to the skin, and electroporation is used to push the serum’s active ingredients deep into the skin.
It helps improve skin texture, brighten the skin tone, and leads to a beautiful complexion.

FAQ

Does pico laser toning work on melasma?
Pico laser toning can be effective for melasma, but there are some reports of melasma worsening after treatment. Please understand this risk before proceeding.

Does pico laser toning hurt?
Pico laser toning uses low laser energy and feels like light poking on the skin, similar to touching with the tip of a toothpick. If the pain is bothersome, the laser power can be adjusted.

Will pico laser toning cause redness?
Usually only mild redness occurs, which can be covered with makeup right after treatment. Rarely, stronger redness, uneven skin tone, or mild swelling may appear.

Is one session of pico laser toning treatment enough to remove dark spots?
Pico laser toning typically requires multiple treatment sessions to achieve noticeable results. The number of sessions needed and the degree of improvement vary significantly from person to person, so it’s difficult to provide a fixed number. However, with continued treatment, not only can targeted dark spots and freckles be lightened, but your overall skin tone may also appear brighter. Many patients begin to see visible improvement after around 20 sessions.

How often should I receive pico laser toning?
Initially, every 1-2 weeks, then once a month after visible improvement.

Can I have pico laser treatment while undergoing hair removal?
If you are receiving hair removal laser treatment, please wait about one month after the last hair removal session before undergoing pico laser treatment.

Can I put on makeup right after pico laser treatment?
Yes, makeup can be applied immediately after pico laser treatment.
What should I be careful about after pico laser treatment?
Your skin will be very sensitive after pico laser treatment, so avoid rubbing or irritating the skin. Please keep your skin well moisturized and take care to protect it from UV exposure.
