Underarm sweat is produced by two types of sweat glands:

MiraDry targets and destroys sweat glands—both eccrine and apocrine glands—located in the underarm area using focused electromagnetic (microwave) energy. By eliminating these glands, MiraDry significantly reduces underarm sweating and odor. It is noted that MiraDry is approved for use on the underarms only and is not recommended for other areas of the body.

MiraDry delivers microwave energy specifically to the area of the underarm where the sweat glands are located (similar to the energy used in microwave ovens). This energy raises the temperature in the targeted tissue to thermally destroy the sweat glands. At the same time, the outer layer of the skin is protected by a special cooling system, which helps minimize damage and discomfort—making this a highly tolerable treatment with very little downtime.

Most patients notice a significant reduction in sweating immediately after the first session. However, depending on individual response, a second session may be recommended for optimal results. Recent clinical data reports an average sweat reduction of 82% after two sessions, although results may vary from person to person and are not guaranteed for everyone.

• Cooling: No follow-up visits are necessary, but please apply an ice pack to your underarms to prevent increased pain and swelling.
• Numbness: In very rare cases, nerve symptoms such as numbness in the underarm, arm, or fingers, or pain and muscle weakness may persist for several months.
• Skin Texture Irregularities: A feeling of firmness or unevenness in the underarm skin may develop a few days after the procedure. For the first few days, please avoid massaging the underarm or overstretching the arm. After about 1 week, you can begin gentle stretching exercises for the arm and shoulder area. The skin texture irregularities should generally resolve within 2–3 months, though in rare cases, some firmness may persist.
• Insufficient Improvement in Sweating or Odor: In some cases, the procedure may not lead to significant improvements in underarm sweating or odor. If this occurs, a second MiraDry treatment may be considered after waiting at least 3 months, or Botox injections may be recommended (additional fees apply). Please note that this procedure cannot improve body odors related to aging or other constitutional factors.
• Underarm Hair Reduction: There may be a decrease in underarm hair, and cannot be reverted to its original state.
• Physical Activity and Pressure Changes: Please avoid heavy physical activity (such as exercise or lifting heavy objects) and pressure changes (such as flying or mountain climbing) for approximately 1 week. Once the pain subsides (usually after 7–10 days), gentle stretching is recommended.
