What Is Surgical Tattoo Excision and Suturing?

This is a surgical method of tattoo removal in which the tattooed skin is physically cut out and the surrounding skin is sutured closed. It is generally suitable for tattoos small enough to allow the surrounding skin to be pulled together and closed without excessive tension. If applicable, this method offers the advantage of complete removal in a single procedure. After the procedure, 1 to 2 follow-up visits are usually required within the first week, depending on the healing condition.
The cost varies depending on the size and length of the area to be excised. In cases where the tattoo is too large or the skin in that area lacks flexibility, full removal in one session may not be possible. In such cases, we will explain the details during your consultation. We aim to maximize the area removed in the first session whenever possible. However, if part of the tattoo remains, it is common to wait approximately 6 months (to allow the skin to stretch and heal) before considering a second-stage excision. The cost for the second procedure will be quoted based on the remaining area to be removed.
